Something Delicious is coming your way!

Vegetarian BBQ Ideas

When you think of a barbecue, your first thought is probably meat, right? There’s no argument that meat is fantastic cooked on a BBQ to get the delicious smoky flavour, but what about vegetarians? Don’t worry, there are plenty of amazing veggie BBQ options too! Here are a few of our favourite vegetarian barbecue recipes and ideas to try this summer.

BBQ Veggie Burgers

Burgers are a classic BBQ staple, and it’s really easy to make them vegetarian if you’re hosting a barbecue for non-meat eaters. We think bean burgers work best on the barbecue, but whatever type you choose make sure your veggie burgers are quite dense so they don’t fall apart during grilling. The Minimalist Baker blog has a great recipe for Easy Grillable Veggie Burgers, check it out here. Serve the burgers with toasted buns, sliced tomato, crisp lettuce and a spoonful of spicy relish.

Grilled Vegetable Kebabs

You really can’t go wrong with some grilled vegetable kebabs – even the meat eaters will love them! Choose a selection of your favourite vegetables, marinate them in olive oil, chilli flakes, garlic and a splash of balsamic vinegar then grill until tender. We love sweet potatoes, red onions, courgettes, tomatoes, mushrooms and peppers, or you could even add in some halloumi or tofu for an extra bit of bite.

BBQ Garlic Mushrooms

This recipe is so simple, yet so effective. Garlic mushrooms are so moreish, you’ll definitely have to go back for seconds! Take some large portobello mushrooms and remove the stalk. Spread with a generous helping of garlic butter (make your own by mixing together butter with freshly chopped garlic cloves, parsley and a sprinkle of salt and pepper), then grill until the mushroom is cooked to perfection and the garlic butter is nice and melted. Delicious!

BBQ Onion Steaks

Pinterest is a great place to look for barbecue inspiration, and recently we spotted a deliciously intriguing recipe for BBQ onion steaks. We love the taste of caramelised onion, so this is a must for all our vegetarian BBQs from now on! Thickly slice a couple of large onions and secure slices with a skewer, then brush the onion with some olive oil, Dijon mustard, honey and Worcestershire sauce. Grill for around 10-15 minutes, turning halfway through, until the onion is beginning to char and has turned tender and caramelised.

Sides and Salads

Don’t forget to whip up a few different sides and salads to serve at your vegetarian barbecue too. You can’t go wrong with a classic Italian salad with rocket, mozzarella and sundried tomatoes or some tasty potato salad. We also love corn on the cob, another barbecue favourite!
