One of the biggest wedding trends for 2017 and 2018 is one we can definitely get on board with: greenery. We're big fans of incorporating nature and beautiful lush green foliage into weddings as part of our event styling service. It's no surprise that this is a big wedding trend at the moment, as Pantone have named "greenery" as their colour of the year for 2017. As they say:
Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.
Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world.
Here are some of our favourite ideas and tips for including the greenery wedding trend in your 2017 or 2018 wedding.
Greenery Wedding Bouquet
Perhaps the most obvious place to start is with your bouquet. Rather than having lots of colourful blooms or a single type of flower, opt for a more relaxed bouquet with pretty greenery. You might want to keep it all green to really embrace the trend, or you could add a few accent flowers to compliment the foliage. Some little wildflowers mixed in to the bouquet would look beautiful, or choose something stunning yet understated like a couple of pale pink peonies.
Greenery Table Decor
Greenery lends itself really well to understated, cool and on-trend table decor. Forget big bunches of flowers in the centre of your tables, and instead go for table runners made from trailing ivy, small centrepieces made from eucalyptus or ferns, or even beautiful foliage wreaths to hang on the back of chairs. The options are pretty much endless! Mix your greenery with neutral tablecloths, plenty of wood, white accents and lots of candles.
The table decor doesn't have to be confined just to the table! We absolutely love the current wedding trend of having greenery hanging above the tables to create a foliage canopy. This looks beautiful in both rustic and contemporary venues, adding a bit of a whimsical touch to an urban wedding. Highlight the top table with a hanging foliage canopy, and then tie in the rest of the tables with runners or centrepieces made from the same beautiful greenery.
Greenery Venue Decor
Similar to the table decor, greenery can be used throughout your venue to add a unique touch to your wedding venue decor. This works best if the rest of the venue, and your colour palette, is quite neutral to allow the foliage to be the star of the show. Try hanging greenery wreaths, creating a wedding arch made from lush green foliage, adding greenery garlands, or adding touches of foliage wherever you can - along staircases, across the top of signs, as place settings, on the bar... you get the idea!
Greenery & Foliage Wedding Cakes
Touches of greenery and foliage also work well on wedding cakes to create a beautiful, memorable wedding cake which highlights one of 2017/2018's top wedding trends. Keep things subtle with a greenery cake topper, or embrace the trend more with trailing garlands of greenery around the cake. Add a luxury touch with a bit of edible gold leaf, or keep things simple with rustic cream icing and foliage decorations around the cake. You could even add a few edible flowers to give it a botanical twist.
Greenery Wedding Invitations
Before you get to the big day itself, you can incorporate the greenery wedding trend into your wedding with your invitations. You could opt for a design which uses shades of green, cream and gold for a subtle nod to the greenery trend. If you want to go a bit further, opt for beautiful watercolour foliage illustrations or patterns - these look amazing as patterned envelope liners!
