With autumn just around the corner, we're looking at some of the biggest wedding trends for autumn weddings this year. As we wave goodbye to summer weddings with pastel colours, wildflowers and whimsical themes, we can't wait to help style some weddings with rich, autumnal colour schemes and themes.
Autumn Wedding Colour Schemes
As the weather gets colder and the evenings get darker, colour schemes tend to move away from pale, pastel and light tones, towards darker, richer and more jewel-toned colours. Plum and burgundy accents are a big trend for autumn weddings in 2017. Add some touches of white or cream to keep things bright, along with some copper or gold accents for a luxury touch.
Autumn Wedding Flowers
The colour scheme trends for autumn weddings this year have also influenced wedding bouquets and flowers. Mixed wildflower bouquets remain popular, but for this season they'll feature much bolder, deeper colours and berry accents. Dark burgundy dahlias are going to be really big, along with greenery like eucalyptus leaves and stems of red berries like hypericum.
Autumn Wedding Food & Drink Trends
Food and drink 'stations' are really big for autumn/winter 2017 weddings. As well as more obvious ones like G&T stations or 'pimp your prosecco' stands, also look out for slightly more unusual ones like coffee bars or even build your own taco stations. Street food trucks are also a big trend - either for a more informal main meal, or for quirky snacks during the evening reception.
Autumn Wedding Cakes
Naked cakes have been a big trend for the last few years, but this autumn there's a new trend - translucent cakes. Rather than being completely naked, they have a very thin layer of frosting. They're decorated subtly with fresh flowers or berries instead of a traditional cake topper. Translucent wedding cakes tend to use sponges rather than classic fruit cake.
Autumn Wedding Dress Trends
Victoriana style wedding dresses are a huge trend for autumn and winter 2017. Think high necklines, ornate lace and long sleeves. If you want a slightly more subtle nod to the trend, opt for only one of two of the features - for example, a beautiful lace high halterneck sleeveless gown. Layering up is also a wedding trend to look out for. Opt for something like a cape, or for a more casual wedding choose a classic white cashmere sweater to layer on top of your dress.
Autumn Wedding Decor
Ceiling decorations are going to be really popular this season. Look out for draped flowers or greenery wreaths, hanging lights and lanterns or strings of decorations hanging down from the ceiling. These look particularly stunning hung over the top table as a 'floating centrepiece'.
