Something Delicious is coming your way!

Festive Feasting Trends

With just a few weeks to go until Christmas, it’s time to start thinking about the all-important festive feast we’ll be enjoying during the holidays!

Whether you fancy putting a twist on the traditional Christmas Day dinner, or are looking for unique ideas to keep guests fed throughout the whole holiday period, these festive feasting trends are a must-try.

Festive Banquet

Inspired by the likes of Game of Thrones, opulent and indulgent banquets are a big feasting trend for Christmas 2017. Start with a big centrepiece of meat - such as a rack of lamb, roast goose or beef fillet wellington - and make sure it looks impressive. For a true banquet (and best if you’re feeding lots of guests) opt for a couple of other slightly smaller meat centrepieces such as glazed chicken drumsticks or a gammon roast.

Surround with plenty of delicious festive side dishes, including pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, Tudor-style pork pie, baked camembert cheese, bacon and cranberry brussels sprouts, honey roasted root vegetables and jewelled stuffing.

Don’t forget the drinks, too! You’ll need goblets full of wine, with carafes on the table so guests can help themselves. Start off the meal with a glass of prosecco (or a simple sparkling cocktail like a bellini) and finish with some port and cheese.

Christmas Brunch

As Christmas lunch isn’t usually served until late afternoon, it’s a good idea to fill up on a delicious brunch to keep you going throughout the morning. Start the day as you mean to go on! We love the trend for a stylish breakfast buffet where guests can help themselves.

Select a couple of “main dishes” which can be cooked to order (such as eggs benedict) and set everything else out on the table. Think smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, croissants stuffed with cheese and ham, waffles with creme fraiche and winter berries, pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup and scrambled eggs on sourdough toast. Make sure to have a glass of Bucks Fizz at the ready too!

Festive Gin

Gin is a huge trend this Christmas - and not just in a gin and tonic. You’ll now find gin in lots of food menus this festive season. Look out for things like sloe gin mince pies, gin cured salmon, gin flavoured crisps, gin chocolate truffles and lots more.

Retro Christmas

Another big feasting trend this Christmas is the 1970s throwback. We’re embracing retro Christmases from years gone by with classic ‘70s and ‘80s party food.

Perfect for a Christmas party this year, retro vol-au-vents are a huge trend. Expect fillings like creamy ham and cheese or mushroom and Madeira. Other retro canapes to look out for include mini prawn cocktails, bite-sized quiche Lorraine and DIY cheese fondue.

Desserts are also getting a retro twist, with 1970s classics like black forest gateaux, profiteroles, peach melba and Swiss rolls making a comeback for Christmas.

Meat-Free Christmas

Christmas dinner can be a notoriously meat-heavy meal, but there are plenty of options around for veggies and vegans this Christmas. Many supermarkets are now including meat-free canapes, side dishes and mains in their festive offering.

If you fancy doing a homemade veggie Christmas, why not try out recipes like a butternut squash, almond and pecan nut roast with red wine gravy and crispy roast potatoes, or chestnut, spinach and apple wellingtons with all the trimmings.
