How to Style an Urban Rustic Tablescape

Did you know we also offer table and event styling services, as well as delicious catering? Designing beautiful tablescapes for weddings is one of our favourite things to do. Food always tastes better when it looks pretty, and the same goes for a pretty table!

Urban rustic tablescapes are what we do best, and it’s bang on trend for weddings at the moment. Here are a few of our top tips for planning the perfect urban rustic tablescape for your wedding.

Plan with Pinterest

Our first port of call when planning a wedding tablescape is always Pinterest. You’re sure to find plenty of inspiration here, with lots of beautiful pictures, DIY ideas and links to blog posts with lots of useful information.

Whether you’re looking for something specific, or just want to get a general idea of how other people are styling their tables, Pinterest is the best place to go. We’d recommend creating an inspiration board (you can even make it a secret private board if you want to keep things a surprise) to gather together all your favourite ideas. You can then easily refer back to this throughout the planning process as your tablescape ideas come to life.

Find your tables

Next up, you’re going to want to find out what kind of tables you’ll be working with. Does your venue provide a specific kind of table, or do you need to source your own? Do you prefer long tables or round ones?

When it comes to urban rustic tablescapes, we think long tables work best, and we always try to source beautiful reclaimed wooden tables to give it a bit of personality. Don’t forget to think about chairs too - you want to keep things relaxed, so avoid anything too formal if you can. Benches are really cool, as are mis-matched wooden chairs.

Start with the basics

We always like to start with the basics, and build up from there. Urban rustic tablescapes are quite relaxed and informal, so your crockery, cutlery and glasses should reflect this. Avoid starched white tablecloths and fine china plates, and instead opt for things that are a little more homely.

Choosing anything other than basic white crockery can often be expensive, so to give things a personal touch, why not opt for a statement plate or placemat at each setting? Gold plates look amazing when combined with urban rustic elements, or you could use wooden placemats with linen napkins for a beautifully rustic look.

Add interest with your cutlery and glasses - opt for gold or copper cutlery, and choose coloured glass or gilded tumblers for your wine or water glasses.

Add texture

One of the best ways to bring an urban rustic tablescape to life is by adding plenty of texture. Combine wood, metal, hessian and linen to create a unique tablescape that suits your personality. Instead of a tablecloth, opt for a linen or hessian runner down the middle of the table so you still get to see the wood underneath.

Add touches of metal - from gold cutlery to candlesticks or even metal place settings - to enhance the urban element and keep things from looking too boho. Play around with patterns, fabrics and colours to suit your wedding’s colour scheme, but try to keep things as natural and muted as possible.

Lots of greenery

When it comes to urban rustic tablescapes, adding lots of greenery is key. Gorgeous foliage table runners look amazing, as do sprigs of leaves as table settings. We also love adding succulents or cacti for a more unusual look.

Forget big, formal floral arrangements as table centrepieces. If you want to include flowers on your tables, opt for smaller, relaxed wildflower bouquets instead. One of our favourite things to do is take a couple of stems and a few sprigs of foliage and create lots of mini posies in jam jars along the tables.
